ABOUT US

The Gaming Authority of Guyana was launched on December 1, 2008, and is the Supervisory Authority for betting shops, casinos, and lotteries under the Anti-Money Laundering Countering the Financing of Terrorism Act of 2009 and its Amendment.

 

MISSION

The mission of the Gaming Authority is "To provide effective leadership and regulatory oversight of Gaming in Guyana for the growth and development of a lucrative industry that supports the national economy."

VISION

The vision of the Gaming Authority is "To position Guyana as a leading and internationally recognized jurisdiction with a well-managed and effectively regulated gaming industry".

LICENSING

BETTING SHOP LICENSE APPLICATION

A company proposing to operate gaming and betting activities in Guyana shall be required to submit a formal application for the grant of a Betting Shop license to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). The established procedures for the application cover the following: 1. Approved Building Plan from the City Engineer Department. In the case of a rental premise, the plan should be obtained from the Owner of the property. 2. Approval Letter from Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA)

CASINO PREMISES LICENSE APPLICATION

A company proposing to establish and operate a land-based Casino in Guyana shall be required to submit formal application for a combination of a Casino Premises and Operator’s Licenses to the Chairman of the Gaming Authority. Under the Laws of Guyana Chapter 9:02 gambling Prevention Act (Establishment of Gaming Authority) Regulation, the Gaming Authority in granting a Casino Premises License to casinos must determine whether or not the premises satisfy the minimum requirements for granting the same.

CASINO OPERATOR LICENSE APPLICATION

For a company proposing to establish and operate a land-based Casino in Guyana and has made an application for the grant of a Casino Premises license, it shall be required to submit a formal application for a Casino Operator’s License to the Chairman of the Gaming Authority. The Gaming Authority, in accordance with the Gambling Prevention Act, requires all applicant operators must meet the minimum requirements before granting them a license.

ISSUANCE OF GUIDANCE NOTES

On the 31st January 2022 the Guyana Gaming Authority issued a comprehensive document which is intended to be used by Reporting Entities as a guide when conducting risk assessments of their products and/or services. Reporting Entities are required under section 19(e) of the Anti-money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Act Cap 10:11 to conduct risk assessments on their products and services before marketing those products and services in Guyana.
